Junior skaters compete at Junior Europa Cup Final
Six British junior short track speed skaters will compete at the Junior Europa Cup Final in Baselga di Pine (Italy) on the 15-17 March. The event is the final of the Star Class Cup competitions, which have taken place across Europe this season. This will also be GB Short Trackís last international competition of the season.
The Star Class Cup features of three competitions in Eastern Europe and three in Western Europe. To qualify for the Europa Cup Final, skaters had to have finished the Star Class events ranked in the top eight in their age group, and competed in at least two Star Class competitions.
Murray Cochrane, Billy Simms, Farrell Treacy, Jack Burrows, Kathryn Thomas and Shannon Scott qualified from their performance a the six Star Class events, and this weekend will be the pinnacle of their competitive year, racing against the top junior skaters in Eastern and Western Europe.
The athletes in the GB Short Track Development and Talent ID squads have already had their fair share of success this season, with 22 medals and 50 top eight finishes from across the Star Class Cup event.
In addition to Star Class events, Murray Cochrane from Dundee recently finishing 9th in the 1500m at the Junior World Championships in Warsaw, while fellow Scot Kathryn Thomson won a silver medal in the 500m at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Brasov.
